Abou Diaby looks set to be fit and injury free for the start of the new season according to Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger.
It’s no secret that Abou Diaby has had a rather injury plagued Arsenal career to date. He only made 2 first team appearances last season for the Gunners. However, Arsene Wenger has always held the French midfielder in high regard and in a recent press conference sounded excited at the prospect of Diaby being available for selection.
“You can’t imagine how happy I am firstly to have him in the squad, because he is an exceptional player,” Arsene told reporters, “I am cautious but confident because he had two hard weeks and came through it well.”
Wenger insisted that the Asian tour the squad is currently on is a great time for Diaby to prove his fitness, “This tour is another decider for him. He will play on Tuesday night and now it is down to uncontrolled movement in games: how does your body react to that? I am confident with what I have seen in training that he will do it.”
The Arsenal boss also played down reported links to French international Yann M’Vila, “In defensive midfielders and box-to-box players we are not short if they are all coming back. If we have setbacks in pre-season it could be different.”
It will be interesting to see if Diaby can maintain his current fitness levels and stay injury free in time for the start of the new season in just under 4 weeks time.
