Alexandre Lacazette desperate for return to Lyon… with Arsenal

Alexandre Lacazette is desperate to return to Lyon next May when the Europe League final takes place in his hometown.

Lacazette moved to Arsenal from Lyon in the summer in a club record £52 million deal and he is already eyeing up glory with his new team.

He has said that he is hungrier than any player to win the competition and secure Arsenal’s first European trophy since the 1994 Cup Winners Cup.

“This year I want to go further and reach the final, which is in Lyon,” the Frencham said.

“I’m the player who is the hungriest to win it, because playing in the final in front of my friends and family would be great. Having said that, we can’t think too far ahead.

We should think about our match this week and take it game by game.

“It’s a good test because it’s a European competition, although we do want to play in the Champions League.

“It’s what we have to do this season. We have to win it. That’s our target and it would be another trophy for the club. That would be good for this season.”

Arsenal take on Cologne tonight at the Emirates in the first of the group games. There are expected to be around 20000 Cologne fans at the stadium tonight and they could even outnumber the home fans.

The Gunners are the bookmaker’s favourites to lift the trophy.

Lacazette is unlikely to start the game with a game away at Chelsea coming up at the weekend. It could be a chance to see the likes of Reiss Nelson and Ainsley Maitland-Niles in action.
