Arsenal cancel FA Cup screening and potential victory parade, as do Chelsea
Arsenal have cancelled a live screening of Saturday’s FA Cup final in order to ease the strain on police following the terrorist attacks in Manchester.
A parade in the event of a victory was due to take place on Sunday but plans have been scrapped. Chelsea have done the same, cancelling their parade for their Premier League win that would have doubled up as FA Cup celebrations.
The nation’s security threat has been raised to critical with army deployed on the streets.
There will also be increased security at the game on Saturday and fans have been urged to get there earlier.
Chief Executive Ivan Gazidis said: “As always, the safety of our supporters and staff is paramount and we are in close contact with security services.
“After taking their advice we have reluctantly taken the decision to cancel the screening and potential parade.
“We are sorry for any disappointment this causes but it is in everyone’s best interests.”
Fans that had already purchased tickets will be refunded.
It may be disappointing for fans but it is perfectly understandable and it is hard to believe that anybody would have too big of an issue with measures taken.
