Arsenal close to completing deal for Brazilian striker
Arsenal are close to agreeing a deal for Wellington Silva that would see him immediately sold to Bordeaux, according to French paper l’Equipe.
The striker left Arsenal for Fluminense in 2016 and has impressed since moving back to Brazil.
He never made a first team appearance for Arsenal. He was loaned out shortly after moving to England due to work permit issues. When he was granted a permit he spent a season on loan at Bolton.
Arsenal would pay Fluminense 3.5m euros – the buy back clause from the deal last year – and sell to Bordeaux for 5m euros.
The 24 year old was highly rated when he moved to Arsenal but struggled to kick on during his time at the club.
He has been capped at u21 level for Brazil.
It is an unusual move but one that could happen more often as more and more clubs add these buy back clauses into deals for young players.
