Arsenal player ratings: Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain superb again
Arsenal got a much needed 2-1 win against Middlesbrough.
There was a big change of system with a move to three at the back. It wasn’t exactly pretty but it is an idea that shouldn’t be dismissed entirely. With some work over the summer and a couple of players it could be a good move.
Anyway, on to the ratings.
Petr Cech – 6
Did ok on his return. Made one key save.
Gabriel – 6
Could perhaps have done better on Negredo’s goal but overall not too bad.
Laurent Koscielny – 5
His first game back and looked a little off. If Gabriel could have done better on the goal, Koscielny should have done better. Lost his man and cost us a goal.
Rob Holding – 6
A solid performance. Needs more playing time. There is something there.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – 9
A really good performance at right wing-back. He has had a very good season and may be the only bright spot from the second half of the season. Sky gave Alexis man of the match but Ox was the best player on the pitch.
Granit Xhaka – 6
A decent enough game in a formation that should suit him better with a bit of a tweak.
Aaron Ramsey – 6
A quiet first half but stepped it up in the second. A very good lay off for Ozil’s goal.
Nacho Monreal – 4
Like he has been all season, was badly exposed. I’ve been a big fan of him but his time as a starter at Arsenal is surely coming to an end.
Mesut Ozil – 6
A quiet game but got the vital goal. Could work well in this system with the correct personnel around him.
Alexis Sanchez – 7
A strange game. A costly error led to the Middlesbrough and on the whole he wasn’t great, but scored a great free kick and put the ball in for the second.
Olivier Giroud – 5
Ineffective and was never really in the game.
