Arsenal ready to break their transfer record for the second time in just a few weeks to land Monaco star
Arsenal will have to break the transfer record set by Alexandre Lacazette’s move to land Monaco’s Thomas Lemar, according to the Mirror.
Monaco have slapped an 80m euros price tag on the midfielder but Arsene Wenger believes a deal can be done still.
After a clear out of the squad that will see the likes of Wojciech Szczesny, Kieran Gibbs and Callum Chambers sold, Arsenal could make their move.
Lemar is said to be keen on the move which could help move things along. It would be a surprise to see him force through a move however. He is happy at Monaco and in a World Cup year he would not want to hurt his chances of making the French squad.
He remains Wenger’s number one target and this transfer could rumble on into August.
The deal seems most likely to happen should Alexis Sanchez leave the club. It does not depend on that happening but it would make the need for Lemar a lot stronger.
