Arsenal Team News and Possible Starting XI v Aston Villa
Just a quick bit of team news for Arsenal’s away trip to Villa park today which kicks off at 17.30. With Arsenal winning their last two games in all competitions and Villa losing their last two in the league, the win looks good for us on paper.
The team news is similar to mid-week, Theo Walcott is still recovering from a shoulder problem, whilst Andre Santos misses out with a stomach muscle problem. Diaby and Rosicky are still recovering from longer term injuries and are not fit enough to make the squad just yet.
The only change I expect from midweek would be the introduction of Gibbs to the starting XI. Although the back four kept a clean sheet against Monpellier, they were never really tested. I think now fit, Gibbs should get the nod over Vermaelen at left back.
The key to winning this one today I feel will be the effectiveness of both Chamberlain and Podolski to supply the crosses required for the in form Giroud. Equally important is the improvement in his link up play with the rest of the team. Even with Walcott missing out today, we still have a good amount of pace in the side. Podolski, Chamberlain et al, should be looking to get on the end of Giroud’s dangerous flick ons.
It’s a horrible day, the rain is lashing down and it’s not going to be pretty. We may not be able to rely on passing our way through the defense, a little route one, as we’ve seen recently can be just as effective.
Let’s get win today and climb that table.
