Arsenal star bizarrely left out of the England squad
Theo Walcott was left out of England’s squad for the games against Germany and Lithuania, and Gareth Southgate’s decision is very odd.
With Harry Kane and Daniel Sturridge both missing with injury, Walcott seems an obvious choice as somebody that can play both on the wing or through the middle. Instead, 34-year-old Jermain Defoe got the call up. Despite playing on the wing and playing almost 900 minutes less this season, Walcott has scored just one non-penalty goal less than Defoe.
Southgate also made the decision to call up Marcus Rashford. A player that although talented, has not had a good season. Three goals in 21 appearances in the Premier League does not seem like the sort of form that should be rewarded with an England call up.
I’m not going to pretend I am the biggest Theo Walcott fan, but the fact that he has not been called up ahead of some of the players in the squad is laughable.
