Arsenal transfer news: Arsene Wenger dismisses Olivier Giroud to Marseille rumours
Arsene Wenger has today dismissed rumours that Olivier Giroud will move to Marseille in the summer.
There had been reports that the French club were targeting the striker in a £20m deal but Wenger has said that there has been no contact.
He said: “I have had no approach from Marseille. We want to keep Olivier Giroud.”
A deal at that cost would seem silly. £20m in this day and age is basically nothing. You wouldn’t be able to get an adequate replacement in for him at anything like that cost and as long as Giroud is the plan b, he is a perfect player to have in the squad.
The French striker signed a new deal at the start of the year so it would be a shock to see him leave the Emirates.
Marseille have new found riches though with a new owner so it is not impossible, but at £20m, it seems like a bad deal for Arsenal.
