Who should be Arsenal’s goalkeeper heading into next season?
Petr Cech has been ruled out for a month through injury, and the news means that David Ospina will be in goal for that spell. Many Arsenal fans have reacted with horror at the thought of it whoch begs the question – who should be in goal for Arsenal next season?
Cech has been consistent for Arsenal but on the whole, has never reached the level that he did while at Chelsea. His recent errors such as the pass to Cesc Fabregas and a couple of howlers from crosses – one of those at the weekend – have left many fans feeling less than confident in their current first choice keeper.
David Ospina has had one standout performance this season against PSG. What people seem to forget is that early in that game he had a Manuel Almunia-esque charge out of his goal where he was beaten by Cavani who then missed basically an open goal. As shown once again against West Brom – Ospina is a liability.
Meanwhile in Italy, Wojciech Szczesny is putting together another good season at Roma. A season better than Cech or Ospina has managed in an Arsenal shirt. He has some maturity issues, but personally I think they are overblown and something that shouldn’t mean that your most talented goalkeeper is playing his football away from the club.
It is time to bring back Szczesny and let him prove his worth to the club.
