Arsenal’s top 25 players under Arsene Wenger (16-20): Dutch winger and former captain both make the list
This series continues today with a rundown from 20 to 16 in the best players to play for Arsenal in Arsene Wenger’s 20 years at the club.
Previous posts: 21-25 – Kanu amongst Arsenal’s best
20 – Mikel Arteta
Arteta may well have been one of Arsene Wenger’s most important signings of his Arsenal career. The Spaniard came in from Everton at a time when the club were in a mini-crisis and stabalised things alongside fellow signing Per Mertesacker.
Arteta went on to captain the club to consecutive FA Cup victories (the first as stand in skipper) and the club are still missing his play in midfield.
It is a shame that Arteta was not kept on as a coach, instead moving to Manchester City but it would not be a surprise to see him back at the club in the future.
19 – Bacary Sagna
Some might think this is a little high for the right-back but he was one of the most consistent performers at Arsenal throughout his time at the club.
Sagna spent seven years at the club and capped off his time at Arsenal as part of the FA Cup win over Hull in 2014.
A little bit of a spoiler alert but Sagna is the second highest full back on this list. His importance under Arsene Wenger cannot be underestimated.
