Is this Arsene Wenger’s replacement? Arsenal contact Spanish manager
The speculation over Arsene Wenger’s future continues to mount and now reports are suggesting that Arsenal have been in contact with Club Athletic’s Ernesto Valverde.
Valverde’s deal with Bilbao expires in the summer and Marca are reporting that the Gunners have been in contact over potentially replacing Wenger.
The Spaniard has also been linked with taking over at Barcelona this summer.
The report suggests that he would be interested in taking over in north London, regardless of whether Arsenal made the Champions League.
The likes of Max Allegri and Thomas Tuchel have been linked with the position, should Wenger leave, but Valverde may offer a cheaper alternative.
Arsene Wenger is still odds on with bookmakers to stay on but with mounting pressure coming from a dreadful run of form and an ever growing number of fans calling for him to go, him being at Arsenal next season is looking less and less likely.
I imagine there will be more and more reports like this until his future is announced one way or the other. It is hard to read too much into this but with the reports of Marc Overmars coming in as director of football and lots of structure change, it does appear that the club are preparing for life after Wenger,
