Arsene Wenger confirms Arseanl interest in French wonderkid
Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Arsenal are looking at Monaco’s Kylian Mbappe, but that he may already be out of their price range.
Mbappe has become Europe’s hottest property after his performances in Ligue 1 and in particular the Champions League.
“Of course [we’re targeting Mbappe],” Wenger told French TV channel SFR Sport.
“It would be hypocritical and a lie to say we’re not following him.
“He’s perhaps already in the category of clubs who perhaps have more financial potential than us.”
There have been reports that Mbappe could already go for upwards of £85m and break the record currently set my Paul Pogba’s move to Manchester United.
Monaco’s vice-president, Vadim Vasilyev, has already said that Mbappe, along with Thomas Lemar and Bernardo Silva will not be sold this summer.
Lemar’s father spoke to the French press recently and said that he would stay at Monaco for at least another season to continue to develop.
With plenty of players looking like they are heading out of the door at Arsenal, a big name signing like Mbappe may be on the cards. It seems unlikely now though.
