Arsene Wenger blocks sale of Arsenal forward
Arsene Wenger has blocked the sale of Olivier Giroud to Lyon, according to the club’s president Jean-Michel Aulas.
Aulas told Le Progres: “I wanted to sign him but Arsene Wenger would not sell him… We still have superb young attackers.”
Giroud looks set to stay at Arsenal and fight for his place in the Gunners’ first team.
It was thought that he could leave the club following the arrival of record signing Alexandre Lacazette but with the potential departure of Alexis Sanchez, it seems that both Giroud and Wenger are happy with him staying at the Emirates.
According to the Evening Standard, Everton are the only team still in the race for Giroud after West Ham and Marseille joined Lyon in admitting defeat in their pursuit of the French international.
It seems as though he is keen to stay in London though and playing another season at Arsenal is on the cards.
He is often criticised but his goal record is superb. Even as a bit part player last season he bagged 16 goals for the club. He can play a part for the club and should reach 100 goals for Arsenal early in the season – an incredible landmark for a player that cost just £12m.
