Arsene Wenger gives updates on Riyad Mahrez, Thomas Lemar and Jean Michael Seri
Arsene Wenger has said that Arsenal were never close to signing Riyad Mahrez.
He claims that Arsenal already have similar types of players in the squad.
However, he also confirmed that Arsenal are still in the market to improve their squad but need to make some sales as well.
Arsenal have been linked with Monaco’s Thomas Lemar and Nice’s Jean Michael Seri.
“We are still open,” he said. “But of course at the moment I have currently 33 players and it is very difficult to manage on a daily basis such a high number.”
When asked about Mahrez he said: “We were never close.
“I rate him as a player but we have similar types with Alex Iwobi, Jack Wilshere back. Mesut Ozil … we have plenty of the same type of players.”
The likes of Lucas Perez, Mathieu Debuchy and Calum Chambers are all likely to be amongst those that are sold on to make way for new signings.
Arsenal have already added Sead Kolasinac and Alexandre Lacazette to the squad this summer but Wenger wants to strengthen further.
Arsenal should be busy over the next few weeks before the window shuts.
