Arsenal star set to choose Nigeria over England
Chuba Akpom is set to choose Nigeria over England according to the Independent.
If he does, he will follow in the footsteps of teammate Alex Iwobi who chose to represent Nigeria at international level in 2015.
Akpom has represented England from under-16 to under-21 level but now looks set to choose the country of his parents to play for at senior level.
The striker has struggled to break through at Arsenal and has spent most of his time away on loan recently. Currently he is away at Brighton in the Championship.
Despite not making the progress some would like, there is still hope that Akpom can make it at the club. It wasn’t too long ago that he signed an extended deal.
His decision comes as Nigeria have made more and more effort to convince players that were either born or raised here but are eligible to represent them to choose them over England.
The decision could end up benefiting Arsenal though. If Akpom goes on to represent Nigeria at international tournaments, then he will be getting more and more experience at the top level. And if Arsenal decide to move him on, he will be getting more exposure.
