Money matters as Hill-Wood admits possible signings

Arsenal Chairman Peter Hill-Wood has broken his silence on Robin Van Persie and laid down a marker to all.He has made it very clear that if its mega money that RVP wants then he will have to go elsewhere to get it! Arsenal are setting their stall out and are not going to be backed into a corner on this one, an offer will be made but AFC will not even attempt to compete with the likes of City.

Here’s what PHW had to say:

“He is vital to us and has been an extremely good captain. But if somebody comes along and offers Robin £250,000 a week then I am afraid we cannot compete with that.

“With players, you never know what they are going to do.

“Some players say they want silverware but when they have the chance to earn extraordinary money that has been pumped into the game, then you just have to hope they will stay because they are happy and loyal where they are.”

Even though Ivan Gazidis told us that talks with Robin had gone well and a ‘silence’ agreement is in place until after the Euro’s, it seems as though the door to Robin’s departure is more open now than ever. Perhaps no one told Peter about this agreement?

On a more positive note Hill-Wood did hint at additional signings on top of our latest acquisition Lukas Podolski. Quoted as being “confident” that we will see new faces at the Emirates.

“We have already brought in one new player in Lukas Podolski and I believe we will bring in more. I am confident we will, in fact. I just hope that Robin will be with us next season because I genuinely feel we can make a real challenge for the Premier League title.”

Could one of those signings be Samir Nasri? A lot of reports suggest that Nasri is no longer in Mancini’s plans at the Etihad and they are very open to offers, with Arsenal said to be interested! That would be a crazy signing and quite a pill to swallow for the very vocal French midfielder.

One question you have to ask is do we want him back?

Absolutely no where does t say that RvP might be interested in silly money, simply that if it was offered it is not something that Arsenal could compete with.

    What do you mean
‘Even though Ivan Gazidis told us that talks with Robin had gone well and a ‘silence’ agreement is in place until after the Euro’s, it seems as though the door to Robin’s departure is more open now than ever. Perhaps no one told Peter about this agreement?’
Err where does it begin to mention the outcome of the talks?

I have not said he is interested in silly money, Hill-Wood is laying a marker down to the fans and Van Persie. He is saying if he wants the money don’t even bother asking. I’m not saying RVP is going to ask for money, I hope he stays because he loves the club not for money! The point about the Gazidis quote is that Ivan made it clear that no one in the club including Van Persie was going to speak about the contract issue, so why has Hill-Wood come out and said this?? Perhaps because he knows something we don’t!
