Preview and Possible Starting XI v Swansea
That 5-2 win over Spurs seems a long time ago now, doesn’t it? I remember the word ‘optimism’ being bounded about not so long ago. A couple of draws later and the buzz has definitely been killed, we’re back to reality with a thud. With our recent early run of away games out the way, we have four home games to help us get back on track and establish ourselves once again in the top four, starting with Swansea today.
Koscielny is out today, and will be for the next 3 weeks, after the injury he picked up early into the Everton game. This will give Vermaelen the chance to start in his favoured centre back position and will hopefully be a platform for him to re-capture some form. Carl Jenkinson may start at right back today with Bacary Sagna rumoured to be struggling with a foot injury. The midfield should be the same once again, with Wilshere, Arteta and Cazorla all starting. There are some rumours that Cazorla could be rested for this one, but I don’t see that, playing at home he should be able to find more space to get on the ball, which he has struggled to do of late.
After starting out of position again on the right wing against Everton, Aaron Ramsey looks set to be benched today with lucas Podolski returning to the side after a brief rest. After returning from injury, Gervinho could also feature today, possibly in place of Giroud, who could be rested. I don’t see this as a particularly bad move, Giroud has played a lot of football recently and it is so important that the squad stays fresh ahead of a typically busy Christmas schedule.
We all saw how Pablo Hernandez picked apart West Brom last week didnt we? Well the good news is that he’s not expected to start this one after picking up an injury. However there is the free-scoring Michu to keep Vermaelen and Mertesacker busy this afternoon.
After a drab run of performances recently, a home game against a opponents that love to play free, open attacking football, will be just what we need to kick our campaign into life once more.
