Theo Walcott’s top 5 goals for Arsenal
Theo Walcott became the 18th player to reach 100 goals for Arsenal as he scored the team’s second against Sutton on Monday night. Here is a look back at the best of that century of goals.
5 – West Brom (24/5/15)
In the final game of the season Walcott showed that he deserved his place in the FA Cup final team with a hattrick. The first of those was a thunderbolt from a tight angle on the right-hand side and into the far corner.
4 – Shakhtar (3/11/10)
Perhaps the simplest goal on this list and perhaps one that Walcott should score more of. A ball played in behind the Shakhtar defence and Theo just beat the defenders for pace. He raced onto the ball and calmly placed it past the keeper and into the far corner.
3 – Manchester City (21/5/15)
Walcott cut in from the right after receiving a pass from Mesut Ozil and unleashed a wonderful shot that flew past Joe Hart and into the top corner. It’s not the sort of goal we are used to seeing from Walcott but it was one of the very best of his 100.
2 – Chelsea Away (29/10/11)
This game was perhaps most remembered for John Terry’s slip that let in Robin van Persie to score as Arsenal won 5-3 but it was the scene of Walcott’s best goal for the club.
Stumbling through the Chelsea midfield, Walcott found his balance, beat Ivanovic and Terry and slotted past the now Arsenal keeper, Petr Cech.
1- Newcastle (29/12/12)
This goal completed Theo’s hattrick on the night and what a way to do it. Down near the corner flaf. He seemingly beat the entire Newcastle defence and just like the Chelsea goal, was on his knees at one stage before getting up and playing a delightful chip over Tim Krul.
