Today’s Roundup: Giroud confident, Sahin and Cazorla close to move
In an interview on the Arsenal website Olivier Giroud is quietly confident Arsenal can achieve something in the forthcoming season.
After finishing top scorer in Ligue 1 last season with 25 goals, the French international believes that the current Arsenal team can upset the odds.
“With Montpellier, it wasn’t written that we were going to be champions, so that’s what made it more beautiful. With Arsenal, we might not be favourites, like the Manchester clubs, to be champions. We’re outsiders, butI’m convinced that we can do something big. That’s what we did with Montpellier, and I’m proud with what I accomplished there.”
Speaking to the Arsenal player, he went on to explain the reason behind his summer switch to the Emirates:
“There was a good mentality in the team, good quality, with some good players, and I look forward to finding that quality and spirit with Arsenal – that’s why I chose Arsenal.
Sahin and Cazorla Update
In other news, the Metro are confirming reports that we’ve been hearing all week, Nuri Sahin is expected to snub Spurs in favour of a move to the Emirates. According to reports the deal has advanced within the last 24 hours with Sahin now being given the go ahead to make the switch after talks with Jose Mourinho last night. The conclusion of the deal is yet to be confirmed, but many expect Sahin to fill in for Jack Wilshere who will not be fit enough to start the season.
Lastly, the most anticipated transfer in recent weeks took a step closer last night when SkySports announced that Santi Cazorla, would be flying in to London to have a medical. This picture from a Malaga fan allegedly shows him arriving at the airport on his way to London, and is definitely worth a look!
