Surprise Arsenal star ranked as one of the fastest in the Premier League – not Theo Walcott or Hector Bellerin
Laurent Koscielny has been named as the third fastest player in the Premier League, according to Opta.
Hector Bellerin and Theo Walcott are normally thought of as Arsenal’s speedsters but it is 32-year-old Koscielny that has clocked the fastest sprint of the season from the Gunners ranks.
The Frenchman’s 35.11km per hour is the third fastest sprint recorded by Opta this season. Just Kyle Walker (35.16km per hour) and Kiko Femenia (35.12km per hour) have gone faster.
Koscielny is not always thought of as one of the fastest players but he has shown time and time again that he has this sort of speed when covering behind the Arsenal defence.
He has been suffering with a chronic Achilles issue over the past year or two but this stat suggests that he may well be in top condition.
Arsenal will need him to be at his best if they are going to do anything this season. The games against Bayern Munich last season showed just how important he is to the team.
